With a military engineering background as a nuclear machinist serving on submarines in the U.S. Navy, I know from experience what a talented team of individuals can achieve. During each entitlement process I strive to get to know the strengths and goals of each client and team member to obtain an efficient and timely development approval. It is this military background and entrepreneurial spirit that I bring to every project and to our law firm.

My practice focuses on land use and real estate issues in Northern Virginia. For over 20 years, I have assisted property owners and developers in all aspects of the real estate development approval process, including rezonings, comprehensive plan amendments, special use permits, subdivisions, architectural and historic board reviews, and site plan approvals. As part of these entitlement processes, I lead team negotiations on rezoning proffers, use permit conditions, affordable housing agreements, tax incentives, infrastructure cost sharing, community outreach and legislative approvals.

I also devote a significant amount of time to industry and regional issues. I currently serve on the Board of Directors for the Guest House of Alexandria and the Board of Directors for the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce. I am past Chairman of the Board for NAIOP Northern Virginia.

Prior to starting my own law firm, I was a partner with McGuireWoods and associate with Linowes and Blocher. Before starting a legal career, I served in the U.S. Navy on the fast attack submarines U.S.S. Baltimore and the U.S.S. Hampton.
